How to Drive Visitors Away
There are many ways to boost traffic to your blog or
website, but did you know there are also things you might be doing that
could destroy all of the work you've done trying to attract visitors?
Five of those things are listed below. Avoid them at all costs unless
you want to drive visitors away from your blog or website.
1. Hide your content.
Don't
cover up your useful content with ads. Pop-up ads and other ads that
physically block your content from view can do more harm than good for
people who want to grow their blog or website traffic. Similarly,
cluttering your blog with more ads than content makes it difficult for
people to find your valuable content. They won't stick around trying to
find it. Lose the ads that block your content.
2. Scare your visitors.
Have you ever
visited a blog or website only to be completely caught off guard and
startled by music or sound that automatically plays when you land on a
page on that blog or website? Has it ever happened to you at work or
when your kids are sleeping in the next room? Lose the sound if you
want people to come back to your blog again.
3. Put up a stop sign.
One
of the easiest ways to drive people away from your blog or website is
to stop them in their tracks when they visit. For example, requiring an
email address before visitors can see your useful content is an easy
way to lose them.
4. Test the patience of your visitors.
Visitors
to your blog or website won't wait beyone a couple of seconds for your
content to load in their Web browsers. Therefore, you must take the
time to save images used on your blog or website into Web-friendly sizes
so they load quickly. There are many
free image editing tools, use one!
5. Publish it and forget it.
If
you want to guarantee that your blog won't get visitors, ignore it
entirely. Don't update it with new content. Don't respond to comments
on your blog or inquiries. If you forget about your blog or website,
everyone else will, too. Take some time to learn about
blog posting frequency, and update your blog often enough to meet your growth goals.
